Build, build, build continues! In a few months time, motorists going to and from Rizal can expect faster trips, all thanks to the 3.38-kilometer Katipunan Avenue extension project in Quezon City this year.
The Katipunan Avenue Extension, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is already 70% complete, and is expected to decongest traffic along Katipunan and Commonwealth Avenue. An estimated number of around 10,000 vehicles daily are expected to benefit from this project.
“Yung lahat ng nanggagaling sa Rizal, Marikina, imbes na dumaan pa sa Commonwealth, pwede nang dumaan dito sa bypass so makakaluwag sa traffic (Those coming from Rizal, Marikina may use the bypass [road] instead of Commonwealth to avoid heavy traffic),” DPWH Sec. Mark Villar (as cited in PTV News, 2021) said.
The six-lane portion is already at full construction targeting the tail-end of 2021 for its completion. Villar added that DPWH is looking to open some portions or lanes as early as the second quarter of this year.
This program, along with the other Build, build, build projects of the government, aims to enable more convenient travels and stimulate the economy.
