The world’s largest IKEA store will be in the Philippines!

Ready to level up your adulting skills? Furniture shopping should be on your bucket list! And, guess what? The well-respected Swedish brand for home furnishings has step foot in the Philippines, and is set to open its doors on Q3 or Q4 of 2021!

IKEA Philippines’ flagship store is located at the SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City. This is set to become the world’s largest IKEA store, measuring about 65,000 square meters (or as big as 150 basketball courts combined).

Both the e-commerce store and the physical store is set to open this year and according to Georg Platzer, IKEA Southeast Asia Development Manager, everything is going according to plan to push through with their target opening.

“IKEA Philippines endeavors to provide Filipino homes with better comfort, sustainability, and organization. When shopping in-store, Filipinos can expect 50 well-designed and creatively styled showrooms” (Villareal, 2020). Visitors can also shop IKEA’s popular build-it-yourself products, so you can select ones that are to your liking. Philippine-made items such as beads and bamboo products also have the “potential” to be sold at IKEA stores, according to Platzer (as cited in ABS-CBN News, 2021).

Five floors of IKEA Philippines will be dedicated to their brick and mortar retail, warehouse, and call center which will handle their online sales. It was also announced that they will hire 500 workers across its operations, and applications are open for those interested. “Resumes can be submitted to the Pasay PESO, Room 310 on the third floor of city hall. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, it said. Inquiries are also accepted on the Pasay PESO Facebook page” (Here are the IKEA Philippines Job Openings, 2021).
