GETTING BORED WITH YOUR EVERYDAY? TRY LISTENING TO PODCASTS!

It’s been a year since the lockdown. A lot has happened as we wake up and sleep in every day of 2020, and now, we are already almost done with the first quarter of 2021. Sometimes, we get bored with just scrolling on social media and watching Netflix. It’s been like that for the whole year, we’d like to try something different, right?

Podcasts have been gaining popularity nowadays. Aside from being another pastime, listening to podcasts can help us be updated with the current happenings, get advice on things we do not want to open up with others, or simply entertain ourselves while preparing food or doing household chores. From informative to plainly funny podcasts, there’s so much to discover, especially those made by our fellow Pinoys.

Here are some podcasts worth listening to!

The Linya-Linya Show

Want a laidback vibe of podcast? The Linya-Linya Show hosted by Ali Sangalang and Victor Anastacio is one for you. This is a comedy podcast talking about the everyday life of Filipinos. They talk about unique Filipino experiences and work on topics from shallow to serious ones. Expect fun, laughter, and a pinch of wisdom from these artists.

Telebabad Tapes

This one’s a husband-and-wife tandem kind of podcast. Telebabad Tapes, as its name suggests, relives the ‘90s and the popular telebabad (or hours-long phone conversations). Art director CJ de Silva and filmmaker Wincy Ong share their real-life experiences and get into topics such as pop culture, movies, and music video making.

Stories After Dark

Are you a brave soul? True to its name, this podcast talks about true crimes and horror stories, all of which are meant to be listened to at night. Run by a solo producer who goes by the name of Derek, Stories After Dark will bring you stories “ranging from the Ozone Disco fire and the Kawit mass shooting in Cavite to infamous places like Loakan Road in Baguio and Balete Drive in New Manila” (De Mesa, 2020). Listen to them on Spotify if you do not plan to sleep for days.

Sleeping Pill with Inka

Contrary to the thrill-seekers who might want some horror before sleeping, this podcast by Inka Magnaye, the in-flight voice of the Philippine Airlines, is for those who are ready to relax and call it a day. In her podcast, she uses her soothing voice reading snippets of poems and books. This meditative-slash-ASMR-podcast may soothe your worries away.
