We’re sure you’ve seen a lot of photos of the infamous spider web or giant hammock on social media. Ever wondered where that is? Is your adventurous spirit fueled up for an awesome day trip?

Masungi Georeserve is a “conservation area and a rustic rock garden tucked in the rainforests of Rizal” (Masungi Georeseve, 2018). It has a majestic limestone landscape, thus the name Masungi, coming from the word “masungki” which means spiked

The whole trail lets you immerse with nature and re-energize yourself after all the stress and hustle in the city. There are also rope courses, hanging bridges, and other unique viewing platforms suspended over limestones and lush green forests if you prefer a more active day.

Endemic Philippine flora and fauna are also protected in the Masungi Georeserve, some of which are the Luzon cloud rat and the guyabero, jade vine and the wisteria (Reyes, 2016).

Here are some things you need to know when planning to experience Masungi:

Be sure to make a reservation

Due to the growing popularity of Masungi, you will need to make a reservation way ahead of time as they tend to control foot traffic to be able to preserve the area and your overall experience.

It costs PHP 1,500 per person during the week and PHP 1,800 over the weekend. There’s a minimum of 7 people per group and a maximum of 14. A minimum of 50% down payment is required to secure your slot and you must pay the remaining balance 4 banking days before your scheduled visit (Macatulad & Macatulad, 2021).

Prepare yourself for a lot of cardio

The trail takes around 3-4 hours, and will require a lot of climbing. It is really a physical activity especially for those who are not used to hiking or mountaineering. It is, therefore, important to wear light and comfortable clothing, as well as closed shoes for the trek. Don’t forget to also fill up your water bottles to keep yourself hydrated along the way.

It has incredible heights

For those with acrophobia, you must know that Masungi Georeserve courses are way above the ground.  It will surely test your fear of heights but you’ll get amazed by the scenic views of the Laguna de Bay and Sierra Madre once you reach the top.

The Sapot, one of Masungi’s most famous attractions, is a metallic platform that hangs above the rock formations. Should you have trouble crossing any course, park rangers will always be there to help.
