Probably one of life’s delights is bringing addition to your home. A new member of the family is key to starting anew, and although the responsibility of being a parent may be frightening, it pays off in the long run as you form a relationship with one another.
Are you ready to be a mom or dad? Are you ready for endless hugs and kisses? Before that, let’s make sure your homes are ready for your new baby or babies! Who are we talking about? Well, none other than our ever-adorable fur babies!
Pet-proof your home
Like kids, your pets are generally curious and inquisitive. They will get whatever they see, so it’s safe to keep your hazardous elements out of their reach. Put away fragile items that can fall and break, tie your cords higher to prevent entanglement, and keep away unfriendly plants and poisonous food and substances.
Inform your family, landlord, or housemates
While you may think that everyone’s excited for the new addition to your home, your pets can also get messy and loud, which would then affect the people living with or around you. You’d have to get their approval first, or at least inform them of your new housemate.
Have your supplies ready
You wouldn’t want to get stressed buying things for your pet just on the day they’ll arrive at your home. Make sure you got the potty bags, leashes, food, dishes, treats, toys, beddings, mats, and ID tags ready to facilitate a seamless adjustment for you and your new pet.
Set up their own space
Getting your pets their own space gives them a sense of safety in your house. With enough training, they can associate their spaces to be their safe havens plus it gives you a more organized place for them, rather than having their stuff scattered around the house.
Secure the stairs, doors, and windows
Like kids, your pets may be prone to falling or getting into accidents on the stairs, open doors, and windows. To make sure that they don’t get injured while exploring, you may put a temporary barrier to prevent them from getting up and down the stairs, or attach some latches that won’t allow them to open doors and windows freely.
Aside from these reminders, also ensure that your pets get checked regularly. Now, go and enjoy being a fur parent! Nothing beats having a companion that greets you with as much enthusiasm as your fur babies do!
On that note, let me introduce to you my fur babies, Kitty (on the left) and Bracey (on the right)! Here are some of their snaps!
